NHS BI & SharePoint Platform

Ridgian was recently selected by Healthcare Commissioning Service (HCS) to deliver their Business Intelligenceplatform for the reporting of Commissioning information hosted within a SharePoint portal.
About HCS
HCS supports Primary Care Trusts (PCT's) in facing the challenge of meeting the commissioning agenda in a focussed and innovative way: ensuring the delivery of improvements in patient care and outcomes across the region. They develop the right tools to gain a better understanding of the patient journey and experience locally and regionally so as to equip PCT's and GP commissioners with the information and data necessary to make more informed decisions about how they commission services.
From the 1st April 2007, 17 PCT's in the West Midlands came together to form the Commissioning Business Support Agency, now known as HCS to provide:
  • Accurate and timely contract management information for both Practice-Based Commissioners (PBC's) and PCT's to manage secondary care contracts more effectively
  • Direct management support in negotiation and dealing with secondary care providers
  • Supports the work of co-ordinating PCT’s and world class commissioning in the West Midlands
  • Provides acute activity and spending by Practice to support PBC's

Why HCS selected Ridgian
Ridgian, the Information Management Experts were engaged by HCS due to our strength in data management borne out of a 10 year background of delivering Analysis and Reporting to Financial Services organisation such as Barclays Bank. Our ability to understand data sources and very quickly turn this into meaningful decision making capability was a key factor. The depth and breadth of our knowledge and experience also played a part given that the HCS solution encompasses a number of Microsoft technologies in the Business Productivity area.
The solution
The current reporting solution used by HCS is gradually being replaced by using a strategic Microsoft BI and analytics platform, including:
  • SQL Server data warehouse
  • Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Excel Services
The information delivery platform for users is a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) portal.
