| Technology Talk at the SQL Server 2005 launch Location - SQL Server 2005 Launch, ICC Birmingham Talk Date - 8th November 2005, 17:30 - 18:45 Topic - SQL Server Security Features & Best Practices Level - Intermediate SQL Server 2005 is the latest of Microsoft’s products to follow their Trustworthy Computing Initiative. Secure by Design, Secure by Default and Secure by Deployment (SD3) underlines everything in SQL Server 2005 and this session gives the opportunity to hear about and discuss with the experts exactly what this means. Our own Dave McMahon is teaming up with Satpal Seehra and Terry Room from Microsoft to run a ‘Chalk and Talk’ on the new SQL Server Security Features and Best Practices for their use. The subject matter is whatever the audience really want to know but will almost certainly cover the new Security Model including the User-Schema Separation, Execution Context, Encryption and the new SQL Server Surface Area Wizard. This session will be invaluable to SQL Server Developers who in the past have found the interaction with SQL Server security frustrating and just as invaluable to SQL Server Database Administrators who have battled with Developers over imposing a security regime. Microsoft have worked hard to find a way for both sides to meet and agree on a security model that allows the flexibility the Developer requires and the Security the administrator requires. This is not a PowerPoint-heavy session, the emphasis is on audience participation and on demonstrations, and you will leave with a good understanding of how to use the new SQL Server 2005 Security Features to protect your system and your data from ‘the bad guys’. | | Speaker Bio Dave McMahon is the Chief Architect for .NET Development at Ridgian.
